Artist Statement

Rooted in traditional blacksmithing, I draw inspiration from nature and the human experience to create sculptures that capture motion, tension, and presence. I strive to balance strength with delicacy—shifting between the beautiful, the whimsical, and at times, macabre.

Biography

Max Barrett is a metal sculptor. He began working steel after moving to Marquette, MI at age twelve. Max apprenticed under master blacksmith Gordon Gearhart, where he developed an understanding of traditional techniques and the discipline behind them.

Now 23, Max creates original sculptural work that blends traditional blacksmithing with a more contemporary, personal approach to form and design. His practice continues to evolve through constant experimentation, and technical refinement.
